Traveling Tales

Swooping back to where we are…

Smoke the familiar air inviting

A signal, a pillar declaring you are alive.

Traveling Tales held poetry and cyanotype (sun print) workshops for traveling communities in Bristol, Glastonbury and London in spring 2025.

The workshops explored themes around home and belonging, specifically ideas around alternative ways of living in New Traveller culture as it stands now.

Together we pondered, wrote, gathered, listened, and spoke freely. Of boats, of caravans, of rooms, of vans, of pots on the stove, fixing things and breaking things, of firesmoke, of biscuits and of tea, of cold and of warmth, of movement and of stillness, of the belly of the whale, of longing and belonging. Of what it is to call a place home.

Our writing, combined with personal trinkets, scraps and natural artifacts all formed the basis for these patches, each telling a story of the individual, and the collective expression of home. Together, each contribution forms this layered tapestry, stitch-by-stitch, our threads are woven together. Connected. Ongoing.

Workshops facilitated by Maddie Wakeling, Albi Knight and Beth Goodwin. With the support of Arts Council England, Trinity Centre Bristol and The Cockpit.

With thanks to every individual that came and contributed to this collective piece, we’re so grateful for your time and your insight, your unique perspective forming part of this wonderful whole.
